What Are Ball Bearing Units?
A Ball Bearing Unit is essentially an integrated unit composed of three elements:
· a radial deep-groove ball bearing insert,
· a housing that supports and locates the insert,
· seals and locking mechanism to secure the bearing to the shaft.
Because the bearing outer ring is spherical and the housing inner bore is also spherical, these units have a self-aligning capability that compensates for minor shaft or base misalignment.

UCP Pillow Block Units in Mining Conveyor System
Challenge: The operating environment is characterized by heavy dust, continuous high loads, and occasional shaft misalignment due to frame settling. The bearings are subjected to high vibration and contamination risk.

Preparation
Action
Clean the shaft and housing mounting surface. Ensure the shaft diameter matches the bearing bore tolerance.
Key Tip
DO NOT remove the unit from its packaging until immediately before installation to protect it from contaminants.
Mounting
Slide the unit onto the shaft and secure the housing base to the support structure using the correct bolt torque.
Ensure all mounting surfaces are flat and parallel to avoid imposing external loads on the bearing housing.
Shaft Locking (Set Screw Type)
For UCP/UCF/UCT units, tighten the two set screws on the bearing inner ring equally.
Tighten set screws incrementally, alternating between the two screws to ensure uniform pressure and prevent shaft vibration. DO NOT overtighten.
Shaft Locking (Eccentric Collar Type)
For UKP/UKF/UKT units, secure the bearing to the shaft by rotating the eccentric locking collar in the direction of shaft rotation, then lock it with the set screw.
Ensure the eccentric collar fits snugly against the inner ring before locking. This provides superior concentricity.
Final Check
Rotate the shaft manually to check for smooth rotation and to ensure the unit is self-aligned and operating freely.

What is the difference between a Ball Bearing Unit and a standard bearing?
A standard bearing must be mounted into a housing or structure separately; a Ball Bearing Unit is a complete, ready-to-install assembly including the housing.
Can Ball Bearing Units compensate for shaft misalignment?
Yes—due to the spherical fit between outer ring and housing bore some angular misalignment is tolerated.
Can the bearing insert be replaced separately?
Yes, all housings and inserts are replaceable individually.
