Industrial Waste: know your ratings and how an industry should deal with it
As is to be expected, industries generate a lot of waste from their construction processes, however, this industrial waste is largely responsible for aggressions to the environment . These attacks result in damage not only to the region's fauna and flora, but also to human beings themselves.

As there is legislation around sustainability and environmental preservation , it is important that industries know their waste and how to deal with it, from care while it is being produced to its destination, since many can put both the environment and the environment at risk. the human being who works with and in the vicinity of this waste.

So, let's go to the publication itself, get to know the classifications of industrial waste , what its characteristics are and how it should be treated and disposed of, so that you can avoid, in addition to the clear environmental impact that some waste can cause, several fines and other punishments in the legislation .
What are Industrial Wastes?
In short, industrial residues are elements that are “left over” from industrial production processes, and that cannot be discarded without a specific control and method being made for their disposal.

These elements that result from industrial production that has no function for industry, present a mixed composition that, in many cases, makes them dangerous compounds, bringing negative consequences not only for the health of the environment , but also for health public of the whole region where the industry is installed.

Therefore, it is important to carry out diagnoses in order to correctly identify the waste generated, as well as its classification and correct disposal mode, in addition to certifying that the transporter, attendant or company contracted to give the waste the correct destination are complying with environmental legislation. .

Some examples of industrial waste that are very commonly generated in industries are ashes, oils, alkaline or acid residues, plastics, wood, paper, ceramics, glass, metal and slag. And as industrial effluents , ( liquid industrial waste ), we have liquid iodine results in the treatment of sewage.
Classification of industrial waste
ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards), responsible for creating technical standards across the country, created NBR 10.004, which classifies waste into two classes, Class I and Class II, which includes two subclassifications, Class II A (not inert) and Class II B (inert).

Class I (Dangerous)
The waste classified as Class I (Hazardous), is that which presents some type of hazard, which can present at least one of the characteristics such as flammability, toxicity and corrosivity, among several other characteristics that can cause damage to the environment and public health .

Class II
Class II (non-hazardous) includes waste that does not have hazardous characteristics and is subdivided into two categories.
* Class II A (not inert): This subdivision includes residues that, in general, do not have the hazardous aspects, but may present characteristics of combustion, biodegradability and solubility in water;
*Class II B (inert): those that do not have characteristics to be classified either as Class I (Dangerous) or as Class II A (non-inert). Included in this classification are those residues that, when subjected to solubilization tests, did not present any of their constituents solubilization in concentrations higher than the water potability standards. That is, the water remains potable even in contact with this waste.
Some examples of waste considered hazardous are solvents, oily sludge, paints, conduits, contaminated PPE, sand mixed with oil and water, waste from decanting box, among many others.

Correct disposal of waste
Because there is a large amount of industrial activity today, there is a large volume of waste being generated at all times. These residues often need special treatment and proper handling.

The industrial waste should receive a treatment that should neutralize or at least reduce, their characteristics that fit as dangerous. That is, sometimes chemical processes that reduce characteristics such as toxicity, flammability and corrosivity will be necessary , which will reduce the impact of the disposal on nature.

Or in situations where this neutralization is not as simple, viable or even possible, the waste must be stored in safe places that do not allow contamination of the environment . Several companies are betting on the landfill of these materials, of course with proper waterproofing so that contamination does not spread throughout the region.
Importance of the correct disposal of industrial waste
The incorrect disposal of industrial waste causes several negative impacts on the environment and public health . Precisely to reduce these impacts, norms and laws were drafted in order to regulate and provide guidance on the necessary procedures for handling, storage, transportation and correct disposal.

Emerging as a way to protect the environment and the population from the consequences of incorrect disposal of this waste. Some of the consequences of this incorrect disposal are:

environment pollution
As many industrial wastes have a high toxicity and dangerousness, the incorrect disposal causes changes in the characteristics of the soil and water, polluting and contaminating the environment , which affects not only plants and animals, but also the humans living in the region. and end up ingesting this water, plants or animals.

Environmental crime
The incorrect disposal of these industrial wastes in inappropriate places is characterized as an environmental crime . In addition to punishments and fines, the company may lose environmental certifications, such as ISO 14 001.

Society dissatisfaction
Punishments against companies that do not comply with the correct disposal do not receive only legal punishments, but society itself sees it with a bad eye. Customers are increasingly demanding to purchase products from companies with environmental responsibility.
